Today, on November 24, Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin visited veteran of the Great Patriotic War Ekaterina P. Ishchenko and congratulated her on her 100th jubilee, the press service of the Administration of the Head of the DPR reports
The Head of State gave Ekaterina Ishchenko flowers, a present and thanked her for her personal contribution to the Great Victory.
“As I promised to you, I came to your 100th jubilee. Thanks to people like yourself, we have the opportunity to be called descendants of the winners! Your life path was hard, but interesting and very instructive. Thank you so much for having you! I wish you good health and happy years among the loved ones. Happy birthday!” Denis Pushilin said.
The birthday celebrant thanked the Head of State for congratulations, and her relatives wished peace to the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Ekaterina had a conversation with the Head of the Republic, remembered her military history. She told Denis Pushilin the story of how she was wounded during the Great Patriotic War and about her hard postwar life. She also called to the bitter memory of her brother who died during the Great Patriotic War. She spoke warmly about her husband, who also went through the whole war.
Ekaterina Ishchenko volunteered to the front in April 1942. She served as a radio operator during the whole war, took part in the battles near Stalingrad, the battle of Minsk, saw the Great Victory in Gomel. She was awarded an Order of Patriotic War of the 2nd class, an Order for Courage, a Medal for Victory over Germany and many jubilee medals.
