Representatives of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics spoke for the first time at a UN Security Council meeting on the topic of “Implementation of the 2015 Minsk Package of Measures on the Settlement in Ukraine: A Year Since the Paris Normandy Summit”, the press service of the DPR People’s Council reports.
“Obviously, the presence of plenipotentiary representatives of the Republics at such a venue indicates the actual recognition of the DPR and the LPR in the international arena.
The speech at the UN Security Council became the opportunity to tell the world community about the bloody war in Donbass, which Ukraine unleashed. It must be understood that the signing of the Complex of Measures helped to deescalate the hot phase of the confrontation, but unfortunately did not stop it completely.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side agreed to all without exception movements and constructive changes only on the threshold of any dates or events important for the Ukrainian politicians and their rating. For example, Kiev agreed to the indefinite ceasefire on July 21, 2019 — the day of the parliamentary election in Ukraine, and the Steinmeier formula was initialed on October 1, 2019 — solely in order to hold the Summit of the Normandy Four on December 9, 2019, which Zelensky wanted so much.
It is no secret that the Ukrainian authorities are not just sabotaging constructive proposals on the Minsk Agreements, they are taking all sorts of destructive steps to disable the political settlement. It is Ukraine’s fault that the peace process to resolve the conflict in Donbass remains extremely complicated, and, actually disabled at all now.
Maybe it’s time that Ukraine officially withdrew from the Minsk Agreements and stopped lying about their implementation? After all, all Kiev’s proposals imply a gradual armed seizure of the territories of the Republics without the political settlement envisaged by Minsk.
We hope that after the meeting, the world community will finally realize that we can defend ourselves, but we do not want war. We want peace and prosperity for Donbass, development of its social and economic potential, equality, observance of all human rights and freedoms,” Elena Shishkina said.
