A Bell for the Angels of Donbass action, intended to commemorate and mourn the children, civilians and defenders of the Republic lost as a result of the Ukrainian aggression, took place at School №57 in the frontline Kievsky district of Donetsk on Thursday of October 1, the press office of the DPR Head’s Administration reports.
The event was attended by Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin, eyewitnesses to the shelling of the school on October 1, 2014, and the staff and students of the educational institution.
Addressing the audience, Denis Pushilin emphasized that the memory of those lost in the shelling by the Ukrainian militants will remain in the hearts of the Donbass residents forever.
“What could be more peaceful than a schoolyard, the First Bell, children’s hubbub? It was at this peaceful life that the Ukrainian criminals were pointing their guns. This is monstrous, criminal, incomprehensible.
But the enemies have not taken into account the resilience of our citizens. They could not have foreseen how ready they are to perform heroic deeds, to sacrifice their lives in order to save the fellow human being.
Today, on October 1, we commemorate the victims of the Ukrainian aggression, the children who will not hear the school bell, our citizens who were hit by fragments of the Ukrainian shells. We will hold such lessons every October 1. We must honour and remember the heroic deeds of our compatriots. Our strength consists in memory, and your strength will be in it, children! May the skies over our long-suffering land be peaceful!» Denis Pushilin said.
Ekaterina Shaforostova, an eyewitness to the day when the school was shelled, recalled the terrible events of the October 1, 2014, when she started the 4th grade.
Then the action participants laid flowers at the Star of Heroes memorial sign installed on the facade of the school building. As a token of memory of the fallen, the participants of the event attached bells to a mountain ash, planted on the site where the Ukrainian shell had landed and claimed the lives of civilians. At the end of the commemorative action, a school bell rang for the angels of Donbass.
Recall that the educational institution came under fire on October 1, 2014 at about 10 am, when a celebratory meeting, postponed from September 1 to this day due to hostilities, was taking place at the school. The shelling of the building began after the first lesson which was dedicated to the topic of «My beloved city.» Three people got killed while saving children from the Ukrainian shells: serviceman Kirill Dobryden, Biology teacher Andrei Grebyonkin and godfather of one of the school’s students, Sergei Sakhno.
