The last meeting of the working group on humanitarian issues did not bring the expected progress, Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR Darya Morozova commented on the negotiations.
“The Ukrainian side still assumes an absolutely unconstructive and contrary to the letter and spirit of the Minsk Agreements position on the issue of the procedural cleanse of persons who returned home during the exchanges of 2019-2020. Attempts of Ukrainian representatives to weasel out hinder the progress in solving this issue in every way. There are certain signed agreements, which we have implemented in full, Ukraine is obliged to take the same steps.
The duplicitous position of the Ukrainian side, which cares more about earning political rating from its citizens by making another loud statement about the “preparation for a new exchange” than about the implementation of the undertaken commitments, forces us to carefully check each, sometimes even minor issue in the preparation of subsequent exchanges. We also plan to completely double-check all the documents issued to the participants in the previous exchanges for their legality in the territory of Ukraine,” Morozova said.
She also called on the Ukrainian side to work constructively on both past and future exchanges of detainees.
