Today, on December 3, Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR Darya Morozova and Commissioner for Human Rights of the Parliament of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova had a working meeting. The agenda of the event included two issues, the press service of the Ombudswoman’s Office informs.
First of all, Darya Morozova gave Lyudmila Denisova the volumes of the criminal case, the proceedings on which were begun back in 1998. These materials were transferred to Ukraine in order to promote the effectuation of justice and observance of human rights and freedoms.
In addition, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR Darya Morozova raised the issue of Kiev’s failure to fulfill its obligations on the “procedural clearance” of 50 citizens transferred to the DPR during the 2019 and 2020 exchanges. She stressed that by continuing criminal prosecution against the persons previously released, Ukraine flagrantly violates their personal, property, civil and social rights.
The DPR Ombudswoman drew the attention of her Ukrainian colleague to the need to consider in detail the issue of Kiev’s refusal to carry out the “procedural clearance’ in the context of human rights violations.
“The mission of a human rights defender is to act in the interests of a citizen’s rights and freedoms. This must remain unaltered under any circumstances. It is especially important in conditions of the armed conflict to make every effort to ensure and protect the legal status of citizens,” Darya Morozova claimed.
