On December 2, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Plenipotentiary Representative of the DPR to the Contact Group on the conflict settlement in Donbas Natalya Nikonorova made a report at the UN Security Council meeting on the current situation in Donbas and Minsk negotiation process.
Commenting on such an important event, she noted that it became a landmark for our entire Republic.
“It was our first time at the international venue of such level. 17 delegations from different countries were present. All rumors from the Ukrainian side that they managed to disrupt the meeting are absolutely untrue.
We saw that some Security Council members expressed interest. There were many questions. Vladislav Deynego and I told in detail about the course of the negotiation process, the results of implementation of the joint communiqué of the Normandy format leaders last year,” she said.
According to Natalya Nikonorova, several theses were suggested on how to overcome the deadlock and crisis that currently exists in the negotiation process.
“It was a full-fledged communication. The format of the meeting did not specify direct discussions, representatives of other countries made reports. Representatives of Ukraine did a walk-out in protest, which was quite expected. Ukraine demonstrated to the whole world the lack of will to settle the conflict.
We were surprised by the reactions of representatives of France and Germany, who were not present at yesterday’s meeting. Representatives of these countries should be directly interested in hearing the second party to the conflict, getting first-hand information to have a full picture, it would be much more effective to participate in this process, for instance, in the Normandy format as the guarantor countries of implementation of the Minsk Agreements,” she said.
“We would like to see such meetings continue. We are grateful to the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Security Council for such an initiative. We consider it extremely useful from the point of view of the possibility of peaceful resolution of the conflict. We hope that such meetings will also be attended by representatives of the guarantor countries in the future,” Natalya Nikonorova stressed.
