Every claim to international institutions regarding Ukraine’s actions in Donbass is of paramount importance, Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin stated.

According to him, the first lawsuits to the ECHR were filed by the affected DPR residents back in 2014.

«These were lawsuits filed over Ukraine’s actions which caused the death of people’s family members through shelling, in cases of injury, as well as in cases when their houses were destroyed. Later, they also started filing lawsuits with the ICC. It is difficult to say how many such lawsuits have been filed, because various lawyers and NGOs have been involved in drafting and submitting them. I believe there are several thousand of them. This year, the ECHR has sent a request for additional information on many of them, which indicates that the cases are being considered,» Denis Pushilin said.

The DPR Head admitted that one can hardly predict the fate of these lawsuits and the only thing left to do is to wait for the response of the international institutions.

«But it is definitely necessary to file them so that the world is aware of the scale of Kiev’s war crimes in Donbass. Behind each such claim there is blood, tears, grief and broken lives,» Denis Pushilin stressed.

He added that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Donetsk People’s Republic keeps updating the evidence base on Ukraine’s war crimes – more than two thousand criminal cases on crimes committed by Ukraine’s armed formations have been initiated so far.

«Kiev’s criminals must not go unpunished,» the DPR Head concluded.
