On May 27 in Moscow the Minister of Foreign Affairs Natalia Nikonorova made a presentation on the topic “Current situation around the DPR and statehood perspectives” in the framework of international dialogs series “Topical meetings” holding at the MGIMO Institute for International Studies. The discussion was also attended by the LPR Minister of Foreign Affairs V. Deinogo, Advisor to the DPR Head E. Nikitina,, a number of Russian and foreign experts.
Natalia Nikonorova gave a short excursus to the history of the Donetsk People’s Republic formation, told about the course of military conflict and real situation in the Minsk process.
“The situation with the implementation of Minsk agreements is disappointing at the moment: this process is sabotaged by Ukrainian side. None of the 13 items of the Package of measures has been fully implemented. The main factor of such destructiveness is the following: Ukraine, using any pointless and even absurd pretexts, is delaying negotiating process, avoiding practical use of the Minsk agreements for final conflict settlement.
As a result the negotiations in the Contact group are paralyzed, so there is almost no possibility for real settlement in Donbass,” Nikonorova emphasized.
Further, the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told about state structure building of the Donetsk People’s Republic, recovery of socio-economic and industrial potential, sphere of culture and sport, education and science.
“Particular progress has been achieved in the area of cross-border cooperation with the Russian Federation. The most important landmark in this direction was the decision of the President of Russia to grant the Republics’ citizens the right to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner. This step by the Russian authorities has become a truly significant stage in the rapprochement of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Russian Federation. Such a decision is an extremely necessary humanitarian step, since the Ukrainian authorities made it impossible for tens of thousands of people to carry out even such elementary procedures as obtaining or replacing a passport or other identity documents upon reaching a certain age,” the Foreign Minister noted.
The Minister also named the participation in the UN Security Council meeting on the Arria-Formula the most important event on the international track:
“Thanks to this presentation at the key diplomatic platform of the world, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics were able to break Kiev’s absolute monopoly on events coverage and tell a wide audience around the world about the real situation in Donbass and in the Minsk negotiation process.”
In conclusion, Natalia Nikonorova told about the perspectives of the Republic, expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation and emphasized the regularity of the rapprochement of our states.
