A soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine turned to the military of the DPR People’s Militia for help, Colonel Eduard Basurin, an official representative of the DPR People’s Militia Directorate, announced at the briefing in Donetsk on February 1.
“A military member from the AFU 1st tank brigade’s mechanized battalion turned to us for help, asking to protect him from the mistreatment on the part of his fellow soldiers.
In order to save the life of the Ukrainian citizen, in cooperation with the Republic’s law enforcement agencies, a successful operation was conducted on January 28 to ensure Private Anatoly Taranenko’s crossing into our territory. He is currently getting psychological assistance, his life is not in danger.
According to Anatoly, the reason for the escape was the constant physical violence and psychological abuse on the part of Sergeants Shkarlupa, Korobka and Zhurbenko, who on the instructions of the platoon commander, Lieutenant Sushchenko, were taking some of his money allowance for the battalion commander, Major Khailo, under the threat of physical violence,” Eduard Basurin said.
The soldier also told that shortly before the crossing, two of his fellow soldiers left their positions and are currently hiding in Taramchuk.
“So far we have not received any reports on the whereabouts of those military members, which only confirms the indifference of the brigade command to the subordinate personnel.
The People’s Militia is ready to provide wronged persons with the necessary assistance to protect their rights and freedoms and ensure a safe crossing to our side.
The command of the People’s Militia calls on the military of Ukraine and urges them to quit enduring the endless bullying from their commanders and fellow soldiers.
It is guaranteed that the lives and health of all those who voluntarily surrender their weapons will be in safe,” the Colonel stressed.
