On December 21, workers of energy companies of the Donetsk People’s Republic honored the memory of their colleagues who were killed in the line of duty during hostilities. According to a correspondent of the DPR official website, they laid flowers at the Memorial to Fallen Energy Workers on Shevchenko Boulevard in Donetsk.
“We remember how it was! They were restoring power grids damaged in the fighting. Energy workers gave their lives so that our hearts, our homes can have energy, light and heat. We honor and praise our colleagues, who showed with their bravery how it is necessary to love your country, your job,” Deputy Director General of the Energiya Donbassa company Eduard Armatov said.
According to Chairwoman of the DPR Trade Union of Energy and Electrical Industry Workers Eleonora Pozdnyakova, Remembrance Day on the eve of Energy Day has become a tradition.
“We cannot forget that eight energy workers gave their lives to ensure that citizens have warm, light and hope at home in the most difficult period for our Republic! So this day is sad, but we have to remember it, to be here! For years to come!” she said.
Recall that since 2014, 8 employees of energy companies were killed in the line of duty by AFU fire, blown up by landmines or explosive ordnance during the work to restore power supply in towns and villages of our Republic. More than 10 people were seriously injured. In their honor, a Memorial to Fallen Energy Workers was put up in the center of Donetsk on December 18, 2017.
