During the past day, the Ukrainian side carried out three combat provocations in violation of the effective truce, spokesman for the DPR People’s Militia Directorate Colonel Eduard Basurin reported at the briefing on October 23.
- At the Donetsk front, militants from the 1st battalion of the 54th separate mechanized brigade, from their positions near Avdeyevka, fired three 82mm mortar shells and opened fire with small arms at Yakovlevka using incendiary ammunition.
- At the Mariupol front, militants from the 36th separate marine brigade’s battalion opened fire with an 82mm mortar at Leninskoye from their position in the Vodyanoye area, having fired five shells.
Also in the Vodyanoye area, DPR monitors to the JCCC saw militants from the 36th separate marine brigade’s battalion carrying out engineer work to improve their positions.
Since the beginning of the current 24-hour period, militants from the 36th separate marine brigade’s battalion, from their positions near Vodyanoye, attacked Dzerzhinskoye with 82mm mortars, having fired four shells.
“DPR monitors to the JCCC also registered seven explosions at Ukrainian militants’ positions, including two at positions of the 54th separate mechanized brigade in the Avdeyevka area and five at positions of the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade in the Opytnoye area.
According to our intelligence, the explosion was caused by the detonation of ammunition when military from the 37th battalion of the 56th brigade were building a hideout. We know from our sources that the militants intended to take the stolen weapons into the interior of the country during the rotation of the unit out of the Joint Forces Operation zone,” Eduard Basurin reported.
