US presidential candidate Joseph Biden promised to give Ukraine lethal weapons if he wins the election. He said this in his congratulatory address on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. This message is posted on the politician’s official portal. At the same time, Biden promised to make Russia stop “the aggression and occupation” of Ukraine.
As noted by Denis Pushilin, Joe Biden’s congratulation and his promise to give lethal weapons allegedly to end the war are indicative of a rather cynical stance on the state he reaches out to. Ukraine has never been free since the coup d’état.
“Such statements only underline the lack of its sovereignty. Obviously, arms supplies are not conducive to peace. And the hackneyed false thesis that speaks about Russia as an “aggressor and occupier”, which Biden has repeatedly uttered, is quite a controversial PR move for a politician who hopes to become president of the United States. We know the attitude of some US political forces to international law. While earlier they called to adhere to the UN Security Council resolution and peaceful settlement, as a mere formality at least, such “congratulations” now add only more fuel to the fire of the conflict in Donbass,” Denis Pushilin explained.
The Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic pointed out that usually those US forces that the Ukrainian authorities bet on fall into oblivion, as the last presidential election showed.
