A multithousand rally dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the liberation of Donbass from the Nazi invaders took place on September 8 on the premises of the Saur-Mogila memorial complex. According to the press service of the DPR Head’s Administration, the event was attended by Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin, Deputy Chairman of the Government Vladimir Antonov, Chairman of the People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka, members of the People’s Council, chiefs of ministries and agencies, veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
Before the beginning of the rally, the Rural Dean of the Snezhnoye Deanery, Archpriest Sergiy, and the Rural Dean of the Torez Deanery, Archimandrite Avraamiy, performed a service for the military who died during the Great Patriotic War and in today’s war in Donbass.
Then, the Head of State addressed the participants in the celebratory event.
“Dear residents of the Donetsk People’s Republic! Dear veterans! I congratulate you on the anniversary of liberation of Donbass from Nazi invaders!
77 years ago, our grandfathers liberated Donbass. The summer of 1943 at Saur-Mogila was terrible. Soviet troops attacked the enemy despite the barrage of fire, they withstood and defeated fascism! Today we pay homage to those who never returned home,” Denis Pushilin said.
To the sound of a metronome and triple volley, those present observed a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of the fallen liberators of Donbass.
“The legendary height became the beginning of the liberation campaign of the glorious Donetsk land both in 1943 and 2014. Every inch of this land is tainted with the blood of our fellow countrymen. We will do everything possible to ensure that future generations do not forget this feat! The memory of the Great Patriotic War, its truth are our conscience and responsibility. We must fight for it and defend it. We will continue to pass on the memory of Soviet soldiers’ heroism to our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Glory to the heroic liberators! Happy Holiday!” Denis Pushilin congratulated the residents of Donbass.
Chairman of the Snezhnoye Organization of Veterans Alexander Levkovich spoke with words of congratulations. He expressed his gratitude to Head of the Republic Denis Pushilin and the DPR Government for the care and attention to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Also, Yunarmiya member Alina Yemashova addressed the veterans of the Great Patriotic War with the words of sincere gratitude on behalf of the young generation.
Then, flowers were laid at the memorial with engraved names of soldiers who died during the assault on Saur-Mogila in 1943.
Note that an outdoor museum featuring an exhibition dedicated to the events and heroes of the Great Patriotic War was deployed at the foot of the legendary mound. The ceremony was followed by a festive concert.
