On September 8, Donbass Liberation Day, Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin laid flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Saur-Mogila memorial complex in tribute to the memory of fallen soldiers. According to the press service of the Administration of the Head of the DPR, the Head of State led a multithousand solemn procession of DPR residents to the top of the legendary height. The central place in the procession was taken by a 60-meter Soldier’s Wrap made by activists of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement as a symbol of the memory of soldiers who fought during the Great Patriotic War.
Denis Pushilin laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and paid homage to the heroes on the top of Saur-Mogila.
“Dear friends, we are on the top of the legendary strategic height, which remembers the echo of two wars. Each victory came at a great price, they claimed a huge number of human lives. The heroes were moving forward, performing feats, sometimes without realizing what it would mean for future generations. The result of those feats is our freedom and just an opportunity to live. We honor the memory of the heroes who died for our bright future,” the Head of the DPR said.
Gun volleys were fired after a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of the Donbass defenders who gave their lives for peace on our land.
“This mound symbolizes our freedom. But our liberation war is not over yet, we must reach the full and complete victory! It is our duty!” the Head of State said.
The Head of the Republic laid flowers at the graves of the soldiers who died for the independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic. After that, in an informal setting, he talked with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of labor and homefront workers.
The festive events at Saur-Mogila continued with an oath-taking ceremony of members of the Young Guard-Yunarmiya Military Patriotic Movement.
Addressing Yunarmiya members with a parting word, the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic emphasized that today’s oath was special.
“Dear Yunarmiya members! You have sworn a very important oath to your Homeland! But I would like to separately note that your oath is special. You swore an oath in the Year of the Great Victory at the heroic height of Saur-Mogila on Donbass Liberation Day! This means for you an even greater responsibility to your comrades.
What does it mean being a Yunarmiya member? It means loving your Homeland, being a patriot, knowing the history of real heroes, remembering and being guided by their courage, valor, heroism and sacrifice.
I am sure that your actions, deeds and words will be a worthy example for your peers. You will be a worthy example for future generations. May everything work out for you! You are doing great!” Denis Pushilin said.
