Some activity by Ukrainian armed groups has been spotted since September 5 during the monitoring of the area near the contact line in the vicinity of Shumy, spokesman for the DPR People’s Militia Directorate Colonel Eduard Basurin reported on September 7.
“At the moment, it is not yet possible to determine precisely whether those actions are aimed at dismantling positions built illegally or at their further hardening in order to escalate the situation.
After we reported to the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic on what was happening in the area of Shumy, he decided to continue monitoring the situation and postpone the beginning of the operation on the elimination of the Ukrainian entrenches to 10:00 on September 9, 2020. At the same time, the Ukrainian side still has the opportunity to independently rectify the violations of the Additional Ceasefire Control Measures and to provide in written the documented fact that the illegal entrenches have been dismantled by 22:00 on September 8, 2020,” Basurin said.
He also notes that the Commander-in-Chief’s order to eliminate those structures has not been canceled, but postponed.
“If we see signs that the positions subject to dismantlement are being reinforced or in the vent that Kiev fails to rectify the violations before the stipulated deadline, we will immediately take countermeasures to protect our citizens and the territory of the Republic from the tyranny of the Ukrainian armed forces,” the spokesman for the DPR PMD added.
