Today, on September 7, the capital’s public park hosted the opening ceremony of the Monument In Remembrance of the Fallen. It was attended by Head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, Mayor of Donetsk Aleksey Kulemzin, Chairman of the Organization of Donetsk Veterans Valery Belozertsev and residents of the Republic, the press service of the Administration of the Head of the DPR reports.
“The Great Victory has turned 75. So many years have passed since the Soviet soldiers defeated the Nazi invaders. This year it is especially important for us to remember the heroic milestones of that Great Victory. We know from our own experience the cost of freedom and independence, and we do our best to pass on the memory of heroism, courage and sacrifice from generation to generation. So our youth can see and have the opportunity to feel all the important things about our history, all those moments that just let us live.
The people of Donbass, no matter how much they are scattered by the will of fate, no matter where they live, they remember their Homeland and read history. Today we have an opportunity to open the monument thanks to our compatriot Vladimir Nekrasov, a philanthropist, who remembers where he was born and gives it particular attention.
Today’s monument to the heroes, soldiers of 1941, who, like our militia in 2014, without any experience, could only count on their feelings that prompted them to rally to the defense of their land, risk their lives and health. Our duty to do everything possible so that no one would ever forget about it. We want our children, our grandchildren, our descendants to honor, respect and remember our heroic ancestors,” Denis Pushilin emphasized.
According to Lyudmila Chernykh, the philanthropist’s envoy, the sculpture is the work by People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Vladimir Pereyaslavets.
“This monument is a work of art. It is dedicated to the men, unknown soldiers, who died in 1941. We remember, we have to!” Lyudmila Chernykh stressed.
Valery Belozertsev also recalled the events of the Great Patriotic War. Then, the right to open the memorial was given to pupils of the Young Guard-Yunarmiya Military Patriotic Movement. The event ended with the laying of flowers at the foot of the monument.
